A glass hourglass with a little green cactus planted in the lower bulb. The sand slowly trickles down and covers it, then you turn it over and the cactus is back in the sun.
It sits on a desk, in the bathroom to time the children's tooth brushing, in the kitchen for tea. It measures time and keeps you company while it does.
A gift for anyone who loves succulents but doesn't have green fingers: this one never needs watering.
