How it's made

Each doormat starts from the shells of about 25 coconuts. The shells are left to mature in the coastal lagoons where they're collected, then beaten by hand to extract the fibre. The doormat is then hand-painted and coloured using different stencils, before being dried in the sun using a traditional technique. Finally, the non-slip base is added to keep it stable.

Care

During the first few uses it's normal for the doormat to shed some fibres: the coconut fibre is fixed to the base with adhesive and not all fibres hold equally well. To clean, use a dry brush. Do not wash with water and do not put in the washing machine.

To preserve the graphics and colours over time, avoid direct exposure to sun and rain. Any fading may be due to continuous use or the conditions of the setting.
